Commenting today (Tuesday) on publication by the shadow Strategic Rail Authority (sSRA) of its new rail franchise map, George Muir, Director-General of the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) said:

"The clarification provided by publication of the new map is welcome. It is the first step in developing a coherent strategy.

"Train operating companies have been working without an overall framework to guide their plans in the franchise replacement process. Today's announcement gives us a first glimpse of the final picture, although there are still a number of details which need to be resolved."
